WE WORK WITH COMMUNITIES TO PRODUCE CREATIVE RESEARCH ADDRESSING ISSUES FROM THE MINORITY LENS

We are a creative research project that primarily focuses on understanding the built environments role in underserved areas and through minority lenses. Together with community groups, designers, journalists and performers, we bring the body of work to life.

In 2023 our parent project hub Geé Space set itself a challenge to create a dedicated space that would shift the power of spatial storytelling to communities with our Dear London hub.

Divisions

Our projects are divided into two areas: Dear London LIVE and Curated Stories.

Dear London LIVE (DLL) uses live journalism and/or modern journalism and design-led approaches to investigate the hidden displacement or societal stories from London connecting locals, urban planners and people with an interest in history and urban societies.

Curated Stories focuses on human-centred storytelling projects that are dedicated to helping us think about global issues of our times.

DEAR LONDON LIVE

Green Refuge

Project was featured as part of London Festival of Architecture 2023

DLL, Green Refuge uses augmented art and public history to commemorate the hidden refuge stories inspired by the tales of Clapham Common.

‍

Understanding the common in all its material as an urban oasis, biological super system, a space for social engagement, inter-cultural exchange, democratisation of green space and inequality – the 45-minute walking trail invites visitors to step into a live journalism experience to see, hear and uncover the commonality in the collection of stories spanning nearly 300 years.

‍

Plotted in tone, the AR trail shares tales from the ponds and wetlands, to memoirs from the air raid shelter of the children of the Blitz and the early Caribbean migrants.

‍

Each section produced from creative research and an open-call out to London residents, offering an unparalleled opportunity to deepen the public conversation about the past, present, future and events of our green spaces, and its integral role in the urban environment.

Corbett Estate

‍

DLL, Corbett Estate is a live journalistic promenade performance that tells the hidden displacement stories from the Corbett Estate in South London. Newspaper sections are adapted for the outdoor stage and performed in person, integrating history and performance art.

‍

Each rendition Is inspired by the ‘unpublished’ migration tales of the community. Highlighting the importance of designing for inclusion, the roaming 1.5-hour performance sparks a conversation about the built environment, socio-spatiality and identity.

‍

Led by actor/tour guide Gabriel Geer, who plays the estate developer Archibald Corbett, visitors connect with the journeys of six residents and the wider community, spanning 110 years of local history. Curated to link locals, urban planners and people with an interest in history and urban societies.

‍

Project was featured as part of Lewisham Borough of Culture Programme 2022 and London Festival of Architecture 2022 – where it was selected as the curator top picks.
